About Hemmat Law
The Hemmat Law Group (HLG) is a Seattle-headquartered law firm founded by Steven Amir Hemmat in December of 1994. A former U.S. Department of Justice trial attorney, Mr. Hemmat and our team have been serving families and communities across the Pacific Northwest for decades.
How We Have Grown
We were a solo practice for most of our existence, employing only our founder and a string of part-time legal assistants whom we mentored into the legal profession. In 2019, Steven Hemmat hired John Avi Socha, the team’s first and current COO. In 2021, HLG migrated from an entirley pen and paper system to Clio Cloud in February of 2021.

Though we take great pride in the peerless services and representation we provide for our clients, it is our professional management corps and the sophistication of our technology that has allowed our practice to thrive.
Hemmat leadership feels that dividing our attention between our cases and our business would doom both – building a poorer team less able to serve the clients that rely on us for safety and a future with their families. In this way, legal tech is as valued a concern as the billable hour.

How Clio Helps Us
As you read through this application, though it may appear that not all of our projects are directly correlated to our practice management software, nothing could be further from the truth.
The only reason we can spend so much time and resources advocating for the public and our communities is because we are not buried under the burdens of an inefficient office. All our invoices are paid on time, our matters are organized, and our team remains coordinated. This frees us to tackle bigger things.
If we didn’t have amazing cloud tools carrying us on its shoulders, we would not have the energy or time to fight injustice.

Certified Channel Partner
Hemmat Law is the only Certified Channel Partner in Washington State that is also a practicing law firm. We have an in-house team of Clio consultants and designers who help other practitioners become Clio ecosystem superusers.
We are also a full-service dispute resolution, mediation, and arbitration provider serving both Pro Se litigants and other law firms across the Pacific Northwest.
In the spirit of the Reisman Award’s intent, the headcount and financial metrics attributed to these ventures will be excluded from all the information in this submission.
Similarly, law students not yet hired for full time positions are also excluded.
